Jonathan Walters was the hero as his double at the Aviva Stadium was enough to beat Bosnia and confirm the Republic of Ireland’s place at Euro 2016.

Despite a nervous start, Walters calmed the capacity crowd when he slotted a first-half penalty past Asmir Begovic in the Bosnian goal.
He doubled the score on the night – and made it 3-1 on aggregate after the 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture last Friday – with a brilliantly-taken 70th minute volley.
It was far from comfortable for the Irish, but Martin O’Neill’s side will now join England, Wales and Northern Ireland in France next summer.
Both sides began the game with a very edgy look to them in front of a raucous emerald crowd, with Ireland struggling to carve out a chance of any significance to calm the nerves.
Walters – restored to the line-up after missing the first leg through suspension – came the closest to an early goal after a great run and low cross by Robbie Brady, only for the Stoke forward’s stabbed effort to be blocked by Begovic.
However, Bosnia’s discipline let them down after 20 minutes as they conceded two free kicks in dangerous areas which eventually led to Senad Lulic handling in the box to give Ireland a penalty.
Walters stepped up against Begovic and sent his former teammate the wrong way from the spot to push the Boys in Green one step closer to Euro 2016.
The goal seemed to spark Bosnia into life with Eden Dzeko going close while Mirelam Pjanic began to dictate proceedings from the middle of the park.
The visitors came out after the break like a different team as they seemed to secure a monopoly on possession and chances, with only the head of Ciaran Clark keeping Ireland ahead after Pjanic's curling effort.
The Aviva Stadium was audibly becoming more tense as Ireland relied on counter-attacking football to relieve the huge amount of pressure generated by Bosnia.
Lulic then wasted a golden chance to equalise when Edin Visca pulled the ball back inside the Ireland area, but the Lazio man could only manage a fresh air shot.
However, all the tension was lifted in the 70th minute when Walters volleyed in Brady’s free kick at the far post to all but book Ireland’s place in France next summer.
Substitute Shane Long almost added a third as he broke away into the Bosnia penalty area but miskicked his shot at the vital moment as Begovic rushed down at his feet.
Bosnia struck the bar late on through substitute Vedad Ibišević, but Ireland hung on to qualify for their second consecutive European Championship finals, having only qualified once prior to 2012.
